The Secret Mountain Paths
On the slopes of Mount Bournias, a hidden world reveals itself step by step. Our secret mountain paths lead you through landscapes that feel almost subtropical — shaded groves, wild herbs, and a living tapestry of flowers, insects, and creatures found only on Samos. Every trail is a journey into the unknown, where silence hums and nature tells its stories.
One of these paths is The Archangel’s Path, an ancient trail once known as E33, connecting the villages of Spatharei and Pagondas. Far more than a simple walking route, it is a journey through time, landscape, and living tradition. Winding through olive groves, pine forests, and gentle hills, the path follows a historic route once used by villagers, sailors, and pilgrims for communication, trade, and worship. According to local tradition, this land was blessed by Archangel Michael, whose miraculous icon emerged from the sea and chose Spatharei as its sacred home. After more than 70 years of silence and near-forgotten existence, Samos Untold rediscovered and traced this historic trail, bringing it back into the light as part of the island’s cultural and natural heritage.
Alongside The Archangel’s Path, three other routes unfold, each offering its own challenge — easy, medium, or difficult. Together, they open the mountain to all who seek it: wanderers, pilgrims, and explorers alike.
The Secret Mountain Paths are more than hikes. They are a way into the soul of Bournias — and into the untamed heart of Samos.
